Piping Components

Piping components are where sourcing from China goes wrong most often, and most quietly. A flange with the right stamp and the wrong heat number will pass a visual inspection and fail an audit two years later.

Meritus sources piping components against your specification and verifies them physically — certificates checked against material, not filed unread. This is the highest-volume, lowest-drama part of what we do, and the part where verification pays for itself fastest.

Verification we perform

Heat-number cross-check against the mill certificate; positive material identification (PMI) by XRF or OES on the actual item, not a sample from a different batch; dimensional and threading checks; hardness testing where NACE MR0175 applies; hydrostatic and seat-tightness testing on valves; and marking verification so that what is stamped matches what is certified.

Documentation

You receive a document pack tied to the items shipped: mill certificates, PMI records, test reports and inspection releases, indexed so an auditor can follow a specific component back to its heat. Every order runs through the same quality chain: shop pre-qualification, material traceability against mill certificates, in-process and final inspection, and a documentation pack released before shipment.

Failure modes we inspect for

The heat number on the certificate not matching the marking on the item. PMI performed on one piece from a batch and extrapolated to the rest. Hardness testing omitted on NACE-service items because the order did not flag it. Valve certificates covering a body casting but not the trim. And re-stamped material — the most serious case, and the reason PMI is done on the shipped item rather than on a sample.

How an order runs

Enquiry and specification review; shop shortlisting against the actual scope rather than a general vendor list; quotation with the inspection plan priced in, not added later; kick-off with agreed hold and witness points; in-process inspection at those points; final inspection, document pack release and shipment; arrival support if anything is queried. For components the inspection is volume-based: sampling plans agreed up front, with 100% PMI on critical-service items rather than a percentage.
